PIER GIORGIO MORANDI

Conductor Pier Giorgio Morandi studied composition at Conservatorio G. Verdi in Milan, and orchestra conducting at Salzburg Mozarteum with M Ferdinand Leitner. During the years spent at La Scala, Morandi was assistant conductor of M Riccardo Muti and later of M Giuseppe Patanè. In 1987 he studied in Tanglewood, USA, with M° Leonard Bernstein and M° Seiji Ozawa.
Morandi has a wide Italian operatic repertoire and he has been working as regular guest conductor since 1990 in all the major opera houses in Italy, Europe and worldwide: Palermo, Marseille, La Maestranza in Seville, Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, Osaka, National Opera Theatre in Seoul, Colon in Buenos Aires, Stockholm Royal Opera House, Theatre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper Frankfurt, Wiener Staatsoper, Macerata Opera Festival, Arena di Verona, Opernhaus Zürich, Teatro Regio di Parma, Napoli, Metropolitan Opera, Teatro La Scala, Bilbao, Valencia, Copenhagen Royal Opera House, Seattle Opera, Royal Albert Hall in London, Sydney Opera House.
An appreciated interpreter of symphonic repertoire, Morandi has worked, among others, with Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest State Orchestra, Flamish Radio Orchestra, Roma’s Santa Cecilia Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra del Filarmonico di Verona, Fukuoka Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra.
MATTHEW ROSE

Matthew Rose studied at the Curtis Institute of Music before becoming a member of the Young Artist Programme at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. In 2006 he made an acclaimed debut at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera as Bottom (Britten A Midsummer Night’s Dream), for which he received the John Christie Award, and he has since performed at opera houses throughout the world.
He has sung under the baton of Sir Colin Davis, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Andrew Davis, Vladimir Jurowski, Sir Charles Mackerras, Yannick Nézet-Seguin and Antonio Pappano and is already a critically acclaimed recording artist, winning a Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording for Ratcliffe/Billy Budd. Other recordings include Winterreisewith pianist Gary Matthewman and Schwanengesang with Malcolm Martineau (Stone Records).
This season, Matthew will sing Leporello Don Giovanni for Chicago Lyric Opera, Claudio Agrippina and Colline La Boheme for the Metropolitan Opera, Baron Orchs Der Rosenkavalier for La Monnaie and Nick Shadow The Rake’s Progress for Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Forthcoming concert highlights include Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra cond. Robert Spano and the Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra with Giancarlo Guerrero.
MATTI HIRVONEN

Matti Hirvonen lives in Stockholm. His career as a song pianist began at the invitation of the famous soprano Elisabeth Söderström, and he now performs Lieder regularly with Nina Stemme, Hillevi Martinpelto, Miah persson, camilla Nylund, Katarina Karnéus, Angelika Kirschschlager, Anna Larsson, Iréne Theorin, Håkan Hagegård, Bo Skovhus, Andreas Schmidt, Peter Mattei, Wolfgang Holzmair among many others.
A regular guest at European festivals including Edinburgh, Grafenegg, Aix-en Provence and Schleswig-Holstein, Matti performs at major venues such as Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, Philharmonie Köln, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Oper Frankfurt and Laieszhalle Hamburg, as wll as further afield including Weill Recital hall in New York and numerous venues across Japan.
Matti has held the position of Professor of Accompaniment at the London Royal College of Music, Stockholm Royal College of Music, The Norwegian Acadmy in Oslo and Rutgers University in the USA. He has given masterclasses in the art of Lieder for both singers and pianists at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, Juilliard School in New York, Cleveland Institute of Music, the Oxford Lieder Festival, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and the Royal Danish Conservatory of Muisc in Copenhagen.
As a testament to his oustanding achievements within Swedish music, in 2014 Matti was awarded the royal medal Litteris et Artibus by his Majesty Karl Gustav XVI.

ANDREA CARÉ

Italian tenor Andrea Carè is one of the most prominent artists in the new generation of operatic tenors. He was among the last students who had the privilege to study with Luciano Pavarotti and is also a protégé of legendary soprano Raina Kabaivanska. He won the Spoleto International Opera Competition in 2005.
He features on the Royal Opera House’s DVD release of Nabucco also featuring Placido Domingo, released on Sony Classical (2015).
CAMILLA TILLING

Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling is a regular feature on the world’s most important opera, concert and recital stages and has enjoyed enduring collaborations with some of its greatest orchestras and conductors including Bernard Haitink, Simon Rattle and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
She is a graduate of the University of Gothenburg and London’s Royal College of Music, and her combination of vocal beauty, musicality and winning stage personality positioned her for an immediate launch to her international career with an early début at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier)
